This is a difficult question to answer, because every project is unique. The design process can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks, depending on initial creative input and the amount of rounds and revisions necessary. Letterpress printing is a manual process and is not speedy. It takes time and a lot of love. On average, most letterpress jobs take between 2 and 4 weeks from start to finish. ^ Back to top
Letterpress printing is relief printing where letters or graphics are pressed into paper. It was the normal form of printing from the mid-15th century until the 19th century, and it’s experiencing a huge global resurgence. The presses used are vintage, and the result is printing that is tactile and experiential. The process is 100% manual and every color (even blind) means another trip through the press — even scores and perforations! ^ Back to top
Yes, we are happy to print other people’s projects. Please see the FAQ on Designing for Letterpress. ^ Back to top
Lilco also creates and prints from linoleum and wood carvings. Examples of this type of work can be seen here: insert link. The carving process is unpredictable, folksy and a really nice change from designing in the computer day in and day out. Normally the carvings we create and print are personal projects, but we’d be delighted to carve something custom. If you have an idea or project, please drop us a line.
In addition to design, carving and letterpress printing, Lilco also screen prints from time to time. If you have a project you’d like screen printed, we’d love to help you out. ^ Back to top
